I think Im at a point where I need to talk to someone, a professional. I just don't know how to do this. I don't know what to say, I feel I don't really want to say anything but know I have to. I can't begin to see how I could sit down and talk to someone about this, but if I don't I may lose all that is most important to me, my husband, my family, my life. I live in a small town and I know as soon as I walk into any office I will see someone I know and I just don't want anyone to know. I'm really having a hard time dealing with this and just don't know what to do. |

Diana,
First, let me say welcome and I'm glad you are taking steps to find help for yourself. And actually, you have already taken steps in the process. You have accepted that you want help and are looking at how to get it.
As for how to start talking to a therapist, maybe it will help to rehearse here, You can talk to us. You can say as little or as much as you feel comfortable with. This is not a substitute for counseling, but it may help with the comfort level and might even help you organize your thoughts so you will have an opening with the counselor. The counselor should be able to guide you through the whole process. The important thing is to get into the office for some one on one time.
As far as a small town, I understand your concerns. Try to focus on the reason you are there, your health and wellbeing, and the good of your family. A few other things to keep in mind, anyone you see in that office will not know the specific reason you are there, and they themselves are there for some reason.
Hope this helps.
Good luck,
Mike |
