I seem to be able to connect with male doctors in general. I'm not sure why, but my general family doctor is a man, my gyno is a man, my therapist is also male. It seems to be so difficult for men to express sympathy, empathy and understanding that when I get that from men (espescially within a caring profession) it is much more validating to me. Maybe it fulfills my own need to be 'fathered', I don't know. I just know it works for me. It also took a long time and several doctors (both male and female) to find one I could trust and talk openly with. Now I'm more comfortable with that.
I'm happy you found someone to talk to. Ultimetly, that is what's most important.

I`v had both male & female therapist & I was distrustful of both-though I was easier with a male than female. I finally decided that if I was ever going to get better, I was going to have to open up. But there was still some things that I have never told-even to my husband. He knows all he needs to know about me. |
